ABOUT OUR CHAPTER

Our mission is: To Provide An Abundant Huntable Wildlife Resource In Oregon For Present And Future Generations, Enhancement Of Wildlife Habitat, And Protection Of Hunters Rights.

In support of our mission the Chapter supports a number of projects. One of these projects is maintaining over one hundred duck boxes. Each year we check each box for use, re-supply nesting material as needed and repair or replace duck boxes that are damaged or deteriorated. If usage warrants will also install new boxes to accommodate a rising duck population. We have increased duck box usage from 30% when we first started to 50% today.

Another of our projects is maintaining ten water guzzlers in Central Oregon. During the dry months (Summer and early Fall), we make sure that the guzzlers provide water for the areas wildlife. At the first of the season we have our annual camp-out where we arrange work parties to prepare the water guzzlers for the upcoming dry season including repairing damage caused by vandals. We follow up with monthly inspection trips, hauling water to the guzzlers that are low and survey for wildlife usage. We repair any damage that may have happened since our prior visit.

Because hunters were among the first environmentalist we also promote a clean environment by supporting two adopt-a-highway programs. Each month we have a team out to pick up the litter along Oregon's highways.

We also have had a number of our members participate in habitat restoration projects at Murders Creek and Harts Mountain each year.

The chapter also contributes time, effort and money to hunter’s education. We sponsor hunter’s safety education classes for our youth and initial Global Positioning System (GPS) training to all outdoor enthusiasts.

The chapter also sponsors two scholarships for our members for continuing education each year. Scholarships are available to any member of the Pioneer Chapter of OHA, their children or grandchildren. Click here for Application Information.
